E.A. Qual è il tuo processo di creazione? Parti da un’immagine, un’idea o altro?

La cosiddetta ispirazione per me di solito inizia quando una serie di idee inizialmente random convergono in una immagine pulita. E’ il punto di partenza di un processo che può durare molto tempo, anche anni. In questo caso l’opera diviene qualcosa di più di un progetto che nel mio caso conduce a cambiamenti di vita e a domande radicali su metodologie e strutture concettuali precedentemente utilizzate. Raccolgo le idee in molti modi differenti ma specialmente attraverso la ricerca in campi specifici come Scienza, Fantascienza, Architettura.

E.A. Ci sono influenze interdisciplinari importanti nei tuoi video? Per esempio musica, cinema, pittura?

Per realizzare i miei video collaboro spesso con sounds artists, e anche quando utilizzo un suono d’ambiente questo è accuratamente selezionato per le immagini in movimento. Nel mio più recente pezzo ’le Voyage dans la Lune’  - titolo chiaramente ispirato al  film di Méliè del 1902 – ho utilizzato immagini precedentemente inviate sulla Luna e reinviate utilizzando una tecnologia che ho personalmente sviluppato durante la mia residenza a Dwingeloo radio telescope in The Netherlands. Per questo film ho utilizzato una partitura sonora fornita da JAXA, the Japanese Space Agency: la musica in questo caso è la ‘sonorizzazione’ della tipografia della Luna, differenti toni corrispondono infatti all’alta o bassa crescita della superficie lunare.

E.A. Quali videomakers o registi vi hanno influenzato?

Sono molto ispirata dai primi pionieri della fotografia e del video, così come gli artisti concettuali degli anni ’60 come Robert Smithson e i film – maker contemporanei che lavorano in una dimensione a cavallo tra finzione e documentario come Werner Hergog, che è uno di loro.

E.A. What is your creation process? From an image or an idea? Or from other?

The so-called inspiration for me usually starts when a series of initially random ideas converge into a clear picture, the starting point of a process that can last longtime, at times years. In this case the art work becomes more of a project which in my case can lead to life changes and to radical questioning of methodologies and conceptual framework previously used. I gather ideas in many different ways but especially through researching into specific topics, such as Science, Science Fiction and Architecture.

E.A. There are some very important interdisciplinary influences in your videos? For example music, cinema, painting?

For the making of my videos I often collaborate with sound artists or, even when I use environmental sound, this is always accurately selected for the moving images. In my most recent piece, ‘le Voyage dans la Lune’ – title clearly inspired by the 1902 Méliès film – I used images that I previously sent to the Moon and back using a technology I personally developed during my residency at Dwingeloo radio telescope in The Netherlands. For this film I used a sound score provided by JAXA, the Japanese Space Agency: the music here is the ‘sonification’ of the topography of the Moon, different pitches correspond in fact to high or low rise of the Lunar surface.

E.A. Which videomakers or filmmakers have influenced you?

I am very inspired by early photography and film pioneers, as well as 1960s conceptual artists such as Robert Smithson and contemporary film-makers, working between the fields of fiction and documentary, Werner Hergog being one of them.
