7th Cairo Video Festival
admin | 20/11/2015Medrar’s 7th Cairo Video Festival will open 10 December in Zawya Cinema
This year’s edition of the Cairo Video Festival is set to host its opening night in Cinema Zawya on Thursday 10 December at 7pm. The programme will stretch between 10-25 December. The festival, will showcase an official selection including works by 116 artists of video art and experimental film works from 38 countries, in addition to 24 works that were handpicked by Medrar’s team from Egyptian and international artists.
The festival’s ongoing exhibition of video will take place between Medrar for Contemporary Art and the Contemporary Image Collective while the screenings will take place every other day in Zawya Cinema in Downtown and the French Institute in Mounira.
This year’s jury comprised of Egyptian visual artist and filmmaker Hala El-Kousy, London and Cairo based curator and writer Mia Jankowicz along with Danish video artist Morten Dysgaard.
Highlights of this year’s curated programme include renowned internationally acclaimed artist Marina Abramović’s The Scream, (Serbia, 2014), Iraqi artist Adel Abidin’s Three Love Songs, (Iraq, 2010) and Vincent Borcard’s War (Switzerland, 2014-2015)
The 7th Cairo Video Festival is founded and organised by Medrar for Contemporary Art and supported generously by the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC), Pro Helvetia-the Swiss Arts Council, DEDI-The Danish Egyptian Dialogue Institute, and the Japan Foundation.
